Grasses are not only the lawn under your feet, but for our purposes, includes all ornamentals that are also monocotyledons.  That is, plants having only one leaf which emerges from their seed.  This includes a wide variety of plant species for designers, including lawn plants but also palms, bamboos, and other ornamental grasses that can stand out on their own with striking foliage and flowers.
