Arts & Crafts Movement (and its detractors)

Students studying landscape architecture might find this era in design easiest to identify with their own interests.  The Arts & Crafts Movement responds to an increasingly mechanized world with a reconnecting, if one will, to the natural world, an almost DIY can-do attitude in design.  Yet some order was still desirable, lending to a revival of formal forms in the garden.  Where former periods were patriarchal to a fault, the growth of women's organizations meant greater opportunities for diverse voices in landscape design.  Please note this list only scratches the surface garden during this period.
