Lepechinia hastata

Origin: Mexico or Hawaii

Type: TELCS says perennial; every other source, including the Sunset Western Garden book says evergreen to semi-evergreen shrub. This plant is not woody.

This plant is astonishing! Here it is in February, in full bloom, providing hummingbirds with much needed nectar. Annie's Annuals lists its hardiness to 0 degrees Fahrenheit, and so far it has been untouched by this winter's frosts. The photo does not do it justice, but at 6' tall and in full bloom, it's difficult to miss. Extremely drought tolerant, too.
